Throstle Rec wins at inaugural Insider Media Yorkshire Placemaking Awards

The awards ceremony took place in June at the Life Centre

Throstle Rec won the Affordable and Social Housing Development award at the inaugural Insider Media Yorkshire Placemaking Awards in June.

The new awards ceremony, set up by Insider Media, recognises the people and projects which help to provide improvement in their communities and surrounding areas across Yorkshire. There were 10 categories which saw projects from across Yorkshire shortlisted.

Desco designed the M&E services for Throstle Rec, which is one of the largest projects carried out through Leeds City Council’s Housing Growth Programme and delivered 176 new homes on Middleton’s former recreation ground. 100 general needs houses, 16 accessible bungalows and 60 extra care apartments were built on the land.

The judges said the combination of mixed-tenure, landscaping and residents had allowed a community to be created in an urban environment.

As well as winning the Affordable and Social Housing Development award, Throstle Rec was also shortlisted for the Development of the Year award.

The team for Throstle Rec included Watson Batty Architects, Leeds City Council, Wates Construction, Perfect Circle and Ares Landscape.
