Sage Conference Centre Due to Start on Site Autumn 2023
Desco are designing the mechanical and electrical services on the new £150M Sage Conference Centre at Gateshead Quays which Lendlease have today been announced as the appointed contractor.
The Sage International Conference Centre is the first phase of the development which will also include an arena, with construction work expected to begin later this year.
The conference centre will include 5,720sqm exhibition space, 17 conference rooms, a banqueting suite, and 2,520sqm of adaptable meeting space, providing 8,800m2 of flexible event space capable of hosting major national and international business events for up to 900 delegates.
The centre will sit between The Sage Gateshead and The BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and directly opposite the Gateshead Millennium Bridge.
Plans have evolved for the site, and recently approved plans include an urban park, creating a thoroughfare for pedestrians from the Gateshead Millennium Bridge up to Hawks Road.
Once complete the 61,440sqm riverside development will create a vibrant waterfront destination to the town.
Enabling works have been taking place over the last two years, allowing Lendlease to shortly begin work.
The design team includes HOK Architects, planning consultants Lichfields, Desco, Cundall, Core Five and Planit-IE.
