PlanBEE wins Architectural Collaboration of the Year Award
PlanBEE, the bespoke higher apprenticeship programme, backed by Desco, was honoured in London on 13th June with a prestigious architect’s journal award for ‘Architectural Collaboration’. An annual ceremony which honours the work of our largest architectural practices in the UK.
The judges said: ‘PlanBEE demonstrates collaboration on so many levels. It bridges between inside and outside the industry – filling an education gap, improving access to the profession and enthusing young people to become pan-industry collaborators themselves.
The brainchild of Ryder Architecture, PlanBEE was set up in partnership with Gateshead College and a host of North East-based built environment businesses, to provide students with a fast track to graduation, a professional qualification and a guaranteed job opportunity upon successful completion.
PlanBEE’s blended learning approach, involves an organised programme of theoretical study in architectural engineering and management, complemented by practical training through work placements with several companies; this enables students to have a taste of a range of design and construction disciplines throughout their course.
Desco is currently mentoring first-year PlanBEE student Jodie Carson, through the basics of Building Physics, as part of her four-month placement with the company. Jodie will be spending four months at our Head Office, in Sunderland, following previous placements at MBS and Ryder.
