Envision AESC £450m Car Battery Gigafactory in Sunderland
As part of the Wates team, Desco have been appointed to design the mechanical and electrical services for Envision AESC new £450m gigafactory in Sunderland.
The facility will be constructed on the International Advance Manufacturing Park (IAMP) and is part of a £1bn partnership with Sunderland City Council and Nissan to create an electric vehicle hub supporting next generation electric vehicle production and accelerating the shift to net zero carbon mobility.
The new plant with state-of-the art battery technology will have an initial capacity of 9 GWh with future potential of up to 35 GWh.
The new facility will produce batteries to power more than 100,000 EVs annually, using new Gen5 battery cells with a third more energy density to improve range, efficiency and exceptional performance while maintaining 100 per cent safety record/zero critical incidents.
Desco designed the MEP services for the first battery plant in Sunderland which has been supplying batteries to Nissan for the LEAF for the last 9 years and we are delighted to be part of the team to develop this new scaled up gigafactory facility for Envision AESC.
