Desco's Louise Gifford announced as CIBSE YEN North East Committee Vice Chair

Mechanical Engineer Louise Gifford announced as the new Vice Chair of the CIBSE Young Engineers Network for the North East Region

The CIBSE Young Engineers Network (YEN) North East forms part of the wider national CIBSE YEN network. Desco’s Ginnelle Alvares, Ryan Tough, Shaun Richardson and newly appointed Vice Chair Louise Gifford all form part of the North East committee.

On the 19th November Louise Gifford was voted by her fellow committee members to become the latest Vice Chair, commenting on her appointment Louise said “It was a great complement for me to be nominated by my fellow CIBSE Committee members as the new Vice Chair, I am looking forward to the additional responsibility the position will give me.

We have recently started to try and gain more momentum within the network, back in October we hosted a very well attended event at Colonel Porters Emporium in Newcastle, which saw over 60 attendees including many new faces. We are keen to engage with as many new members as we can, it’s important that the next generation of engineers are networking and sharing best practice in our region. We are looking to increase our Social Media activity and have a host of events lined up for next year, exciting times ahead for the CIBSE YEN.”

The main objectives of the CIBSE YEN are to:

  • Provide a forum and support network for fellow North East young engineers within CIBSE
  • Create a platform for new ways of working, novel approaches to design and best practice knowledge exchange.
  • Encourage young engineers to engage with CIBSE at an early stage in their careers
  • Encourage more females to join the building services profession
  • Use the committee as a platform to promote building services engineering to school and university students
  • Guide young engineers considering the profession towards long term careers in building service

The Young Engineers Network is an excellent way to promote and increase the awareness of CIBSE in the North East, whilst encouraging young engineers in the North East region to come together and create a centre for excellence within engineering.

The Committee are responsible for providing content and managing the YEN North East Social Media accounts, organising and hosting events to encourage participation and networking.
