Constructing Excellence North East Awards Shortlist 2021

We are delighted to see 4 of our projects shortlisted for the Constructing Excellence North East awards 2021.

Cornell Quarter has been shortlisted in 4 categories; Integration and Collaborative Working, Health Safety and Wellbeing, Client of the Year and Building Project of the Year. Desco were part of the design team on the 300 bed student residential scheme for Teesside University.  The £21m development marked another major milestone in the University’s £300m Campus Masterplan. The scheme achieved a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’ with an EPC rating ‘A’. Hadrians Tower is shortlisted in the Building Project of The Year category. Desco were appointed to design the mechanical and electrical services on the new, 83 metre building, in the centre of Newcastle, creating a landmark for the city. Known as one of the most iconic projects undertaken in Newcastle, the development has regenerated a derelict brownfield site in the city’s famous conservation area that lay vacant for over a decade. The project comprises the construction of a 26-storey reinforced concrete tower block containing 162 high specification apartments, comprising of 54 one-bedroom units, 102 two-bedroom units and 6 luxurious three-bedroom units, offering a premium living experience in Newcastle’s must luxurious new community.  Tolent, The High Street Group, Elliott Associates, FaulknerBrowns Architects, AJP, DPP Planning, 4D, EVB, Malone and T Clarke

Integrated Covid Hub North East has been shortlisted in the Building Project of the Year category. A project we are extremely proud to have been a part of, Desco were engaged in the design process of the lab in Gateshead, which has provided more capacity for Covid-19 testing, specialist facilities to develop innovative approaches to Covid science and a regional centre to share and coordinate data, information and resources. The lab processes PCR tests from home testing and local testing sites in the region, as well as the rest of the country when needed. The laboratory provides a significant expansion to Covid testing capacity, strengthening the region’s resilience and ability to control virus spread.  Turner & Townsend, Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Robertson Construction, Ryder Architecture and Geoffrey Robinson Ltd

The Coach House is shortlisted in the Conservation & Regeneration category. The Grade II listed building located in  Gosforth had previously been used as office space. Desco provided the MEP design services for the building’s renovation to two bungalows, four luxury apartments and two houses.  Ward Robinson Ltd, McDougall Dodds Ltd, Howarth Lithchfield, DP Builders, CK21 and SR Surveyor
