Desco were appointed to design the mechanical and electrical services on the new, 83 metre building, ‘Hadrians Tower’ in the centre of Newcastle, creating a landmark for the city. Known as one of the most iconic projects ever undertaken in Newcastle, the development has regenerated a derelict brownfield site in the city’s famous conservation area that lay vacant for over a decade. The project comprises the construction of a 26-storey reinforced concrete tower block containing 162 high specification apartments, comprising of 54 one-bedroom units, 102 two-bedroom units and 6 luxurious three-bedroom units, offering a premium living experience in Newcastle’s must luxurious new community.

Each apartment has stunning floor to ceiling windows looking out across the Newcastle skyline, fully fitted kitchens with appliances, smart heating and connections to the fastest megabyte broadband speeds in the North East. Not only setting the record as the city’s tallest building, it has also set the standard for a new concept of luxury living in the region, branded ‘hometel’. The development also features 3SIXTY, a champagne and cocktail lounge on the 26th floor, offering panoramic views of the city and the mezzanine floor is home to specially created coffee house, Hadrian’s & Co. Residents can access a wide range of services and benefits designed to make their lives easier and their time at Hadrian’s Tower more relaxing, healthy and enjoyable.

Through a dedicated app, which links to the 24/7 concierge, residents can book housekeeping services, arrange dry cleaning and laundry, turn up the heating or book a table at venues across the city. The high quality, estate managed accommodation will help to retain top professionals in Newcastle supporting the cities ambition to develop world-leading expertise in science and emerging technologies. The building has been designed to enhance views of the listed Printworks building from St James’ Boulevard as well as improving connectivity between the city centre and the Science Central site. Significant improvements are also proposed to the public spaces surrounding the site to create an uplifting environment for the new and existing communities.

David Thompson, regional director for Tolent, said: “Hadrian’s Tower is one of the most iconic projects ever undertaken in Newcastle, integrating high quality architecture and construction to create a bold structure that now stands tall and proud on the city skyline. “We’re delighted to have been involved in another significant development in the region and I’d like to thank our teams, supply chain and wider partners for the support throughout this project – the end result is certainly something we can all be proud of.”

Gary Forrest, Chairman of The High Street Group, said: “We are exceptionally proud of Hadrian’s Tower, which is testament to the vision, dedication and imagination of our team and creates a new community in the heart of Newcastle. “The team has met our expectations by delivering a truly stunning building that will be home to our ‘hometel’ concept living. Hadrian’s Tower is quickly becoming the most-sought after address in Newcastle, offering the type of luxury living and 5 star-standard services and benefits not seen before in the city. “Hadrian’s Tower reflects The High Street Group’s strategy to create sustainable communities where people can buy or rent for the long-term and is a real jewel in the crown of our development portfolio. The interest in the apartments has been phenomenal and we look forward to welcoming the first residents who will make Hadrian’s Tower home.”

Paul Baker, Director at Desco, said “Hadrian’s tower is known as one of the most iconic projects ever to be undertaken in Newcastle, Desco are delighted to have been part of this project from start to finish. Looking at the completed building as it fills Newcastle’s skyline it gives us great pride to know we have been part of the team who successfully delivered it. Not only is it a first in terms of height, but it represents a forward-thinking style of living for the city and we look forward to seeing the building’s residents move in.”
