Desco's Life Kitchen Project Officially Opens

The Life Kitchen Cookery School in Mowbray Park, Sunderland was officially opened on Tuesday 4th June by TV Personality and Celebrity Chef Nigella Lawson.

Last night saw the official opening of The Life Kitchen Cookery School Project in Mowbray Park, Sunderland with Nigella Lawson, what a fantastic project to be part of, aimed at providing people who are living with Cancer and having treatment, the necessary skills and methods to cook food’s they can taste and enjoy. The Life Kitchen was launched by Ryan Riley in memory of his mother Krista, following her death due to small cell lung cancer.

One of the side effects of his mother’s chemotherapy treatment was loss of appetite and taste, prompting him to create the Life Kitchen which aims to bring back to enjoyment of eating at a difficult time, through creative recipes. The very first classes were held at Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage in Devon and many more have been hosted at a variety of venues since.

The new Cookery School is in founder Ryan’s home town Sunderland, beautifully situated in Mowbray Park in the Grade 2 listed Victorian Gate Lodge. The School will have frequent Life Kitchen cookery classes as well as a community outreach space for local people. As well as for people all over the UK and abroad to come and be part of the Life Kitchen Community. The School will also double as a food workshop studio for bloggers, photographers, and supper clubs to help pay for the continued up-keep and running of the school. The Life Kitchen classes are FREE to people affected by cancer.
