Desco is currently delivering the M&E design on this ambitious, landmark city centre project for Coventry City Council.
The iconic, circular shaped building, which will be constructed adjacent to the historic Christ Church Tower and Spire will provide a destination leisure facility over three storeys. The Wave will boast a number of high octane slides as well as a wave pool, 25m x 4 lane swimming pool, lazy river, a day spa and 120 station fitness suite, squash courts and dance studio.
Nine slides in total will be built at The Wave, including the Navigator, a waterpark version of a roller coaster which has both uphill and downhill drops in a tube – the Speed Slide, which has a thrilling drop of 20 metres and a whirlpool style ride featuring a plunge pool. The Crestar slide will ‘shuttle you through giant spheres with lightening effects and other surprises to delight sliders as they journey over 150m’. The Cascade is another slide being installed at the park which is described as a fully enclosed slide that sweeps riders through large sections of coloured light.
Each ride will be complemented by light and sound features for an immersive ride experience.
The development is the regeneration project for this area of Coventry City Centre. The site buildings and surrounding areas needed modernisation, driven by Coventry City Council this will be a socially inclusive development. We assisted with meetings to engage with the public and wider community including the existing 50m swimming club. The Coventry Waterpark will be utilised by the public, and therefore all necessary areas in-line with the services we offer have been considered and put into practice. The new leisure centre will have a phased opening, with the swimming pool, day spa and gym opening first and the waterpark being the last element to open.
