Hebburn Tri-Station
Desco are designing the mechanical and electrical services for Hebburn Tri-Station, a new state-of-the-art blue light hub in the North East.
The facility will be home to Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS), teams from Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS), bringing together three of the region’s emergency service organisations under one roof.
The scheme is expected to be the first of its kind in the country to be completely carbon neutral and provide a major new hub for emergency services. Facilities will include staff accommodation, emergency vehicle appliance bays and a training building.
The new sustainable station will have a range of environmentally friendly features to support its Net Zero Carbon in Operation (NZCiO) which means the building will generate enough energy onsite to offset its energy use over the course of a year. This is ensured by enhanced building fabric and energy saving systems. The building design includes ground source heat pumps for heating and hot water and solar panels to generate electricity. It will also have a number of EV charging points to facilitate the transition to electric vehicles in the future.
Following the appointment of Esh Construction in December 2022 the scheme is expected to start on site in early 2023.
