Hebburn Tri-Station
Desco designed the mechanical and electrical services for Hebburn Tri-Station, a new state-of-the-art blue light hub in the North East.
Hebburn Tri-Station is home to Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS), teams from Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS), bringing together three of the region’s emergency service organisations under one roof.
The facility, which opened in May 2024 is the first of its kind to be carbon-neutral and provides a major new hub for emergency services which Desco designed the mechanical and electrical services for. The hub includes staff accommodation, emergency vehicle bays and a training building.
The tri-station was designed with a focus on sustainability, collaboration, and the community. The design of the tri-station allows the fire service, police, and ambulance service to be based at the same facility and work collaboratively to serve the community.
The building features a range of sustainable features to support its Net Zero Carbon in Operation (NZCiO) which means the building will generate enough energy onsite to offset its energy use over the course of a year. The hub is fully electric and produces its energy from over 340 photovoltaic (PV) panels which have been installed. The PV panels can produce 100% of the renewable electricity for the Tri-Station.
Other sustainable features include ground source heat pumps for heating and hot water, a wildflower meadow to support biodiversity and electric car and cycle charging points.
The building features a training tower and garage which allows the services to train on site individually and also together and reach their community swiftly. By training together, the services are able to take part in exercises which require several different services to come together to protect their community.
