Buile Hill Mansion
Desco were appointed to deliver the M&E building services design for the full restoration of this Grade II listed mansion which was built almost 200 years ago.
The restoration has transformed the building into an 8,000sq ft wedding and events venue, complete with 3,000sq ft of registry office services and a 2,000sq ft café and bar area.
The building and associated grounds are owned by Salford City Council and have been out of public use for more than 20 years and was rated a severely dilapidated building. The project aimed to restore, preserve, refurbish and enhance the heritage & original architecture of the building.
The restoration of the building saw a ground floor café created to welcome park visitors and families and a new community room created for local groups to use for meetings, clubs and activities.
The mansion has been transformed into a premier wedding and events venue able to host weddings and functions in two refurbished rooms, each holding up to 80 guests. There are also council registration services on site, making it possible for couples to make the venue a one stop destination for their wedding.
The site also saw the Park Hall be refurbished to accommodate larger celebrations including weddings, including the Banqueting Suite, offering a large, flexible space for events in the former social club building.
The original architect of the building, Sir Charles Barry, was known famously for his other works such as Manchester Art Gallery, the rebuilding of the Houses of Parliament and re-modelling Trafalgar Square as well as many country houses and churches across the country.
The building is set to open to the public in March 2026.
The team included, Identity Consult, Salford City Council, Buttress, SpaceInvader and John Turner Construction Group LTD.
