This will see £300m spent to transform its campus in structured phases. The National Horizons Centre forms part of the first phase of the development.

Desco provided the mechanical and electrical services detailed design for the new National Horizons Centre, a new state-of-the art, purpose built bioscience research, teaching and training facility at the University’s Darlington campus. The aim was to address the growing needs of the emerging bio-based industries set to transform the UK economy, including biologics, industrial biotechnology and digital and bio-pharmaceuticals.

The Centre is located at Darlington’s Central Park alongside the new National Biologics Manufacturing Centre and Teesside University’s Centre for Professional and Executive Development.

It features teaching, learning and collaboration spaces, laboratories and a computing suite.

Complementing the existing facilities, the Centre provides Teesside’s students with access to a wider range of laboratories and the latest industry-standard equipment. The centre has been designed to a high specification and features highly specialised mechanical and electrical services and a specialist fit-out to cater for a range of laboratory conditions and uses.
