Planning Permission Approved for Beacon Academy

Planning permission has been approved for a new school in Cleethorpes this week.

Desco are designing the mechanical and electrical services for the new Beacon Academy in Cleethorpes which has now secured planning permission and expected to open in Summer 2025.

The new school will replace the existing secondary school which dates back to 1959, and is described as the ‘most oversubscribed school in North East Lincolnshire’ by its headteacher. The new school will offer a further 125 places, catering for 750 pupils, plus integrated Specialist Education teaching accommodation and enhanced Sports Pitch provision when completed.

All buildings, apart from one, will be demolished and the remaining building will have its ground floor, which currently provides catering and dining provision, remodelled to provide teaching provision. A new single block building will be built on site, which will be conducted in stages. The new main school block will be built in the first stage whilst pupils remain in the existing facility.

The new building will feature a highly insulated envelope, natural light flowing into teaching spaces, and a biosolar roof, which will combine solar panels and wildflower grasses. The project will meet several sustainability requirements including being future proofed against the risk of climate change, achieve Net Zero Carbon in operation (NZCiO) at completion.

The project will be funded through the local council and the DfE as part of the DfE’s School Rebuild Programme which modernises schools and sixth forms.
