Bedworth Physical Activity Hub Opens to the Public
On Tuesday 10th March, Bedworth Physical Activity Hub opened its doors to members of the public, revealing its brand-new facilities.
Desco are proud to have provided the mechanical and electrical services design, along with the pool water services on the state of the art building.
The £30.6m hub, operated by Everyone Active on behalf of its owner, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, features a 25m, eight lane pool; a learner pool with moveable floor and a 100-station gym. There is also an indoor cycling studio, two group exercise studios, spacious changing areas, a wellness hub and meeting rooms.
The activity hub was constructed to replace the former 1970’s leisure centre which had become an ageing building. Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council received over £14million of funding from the governments Levelling Up Fund to support the construction.
A number of sustainable initiatives have been designed on the building including air source heat pumps for pool heating and domestic hot water, and Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) in some areas; a PV array on top of the sports hall and carefully considered materials that will be used in the building to ensure that they perform as efficiently as possible.
Works on the new external activities are ongoing, with an opening date expected in September. Facilities include a new downhill BMX trail track, outdoor cycling and walking routes, secure and innovative cycle park/learn to ride area, changing and WC facilities for park users, 5 a-side pitch and basketball court.
