Beamish Football Centre won the Retrofit category at the CENE Awards ceremony at The Grand Hotel

The Constructing Excellence North East (CENE) Awards 2025 took place earlier this month, and we are delighted to announce that Beamish Football Club won the Retrofit category.

The awards ceremony celebrates everything the North East Built Environment has to be proud of, with a wide range of buildings and designs nominated for awards.

Beamish Football Centre saw a £1.6m upgrade to their training facilities with a new bar and function space designed.

With the UK having Europe’s oldest building stock, retrofit is key to delivering a net zero built environment and providing the high-quality homes and buildings society needs. The Retrofit category highlights projects and programmes where Constructing Excellence principle? deliver better performance of an existing asset. Judges look for improved performance of the asset, use of digital through the project, the employment of innovative techniques and a measured impact of the solutions and end result including reduced carbon emissions.

The awards ceremony took place at The Grand Hotel, Gosforth Park on Friday 13th June.
