Recruiting for a Building Physics & Sustainability Engineer

Desco are expanding their Sustainable Engineering service and we are looking for a dynamic individual with a proven background in Sustainable Engineering to join our Building Physics department.

Reports to

Associate Director – Building Physics

Job Description Overview

The role will involve working on varied and challenging projects, client communication, report writing, M&E technical support and concept design analysis.

The candidate will have a strong work ethic and the ability to work with and advise others within the team.

Main Tasks

  • Lead and advise on sustainable engineering on projects throughout the UK
  • Producing dynamic thermal models using IES VE software
  • Understanding and producing Part L & EPC compliance for projects (Domestic & Non-Domestic)
  • Undertake and produce energy operational energy modelling (TM54 / NABERS)
  • Produce and advise on overheating risks in buildings (TM 52 / TM 59 / AD Part O)
  • Daylight modelling
  • Understand passive design and the ability to support the wider design team to develop low carbon design solutions
  • London Plan Energy Strategy applications
  • BREEAM Evidencing
  • Develop and mentor junior staff
  • Contributing towards raising the level of technical excellence within the business

Essential Experience

  • High level understanding of thermal modelling in IES / Design Builder / SBEM / FSAP
  • Knowledge and experience of Building Regulations Part L
  • Proficient in Excel & Word
  • Previous experience in building physics, architectural design or M&E building services design

Desirable Experience

  • Degree Qualified – building physics, architectural design, M&E services
  • Professional memberships – (CIBSE, IET, RIBA)
  • Low Carbon Consultant / Low Carbon Energy Assessor
  • Revit & Auto CAD
  • BREEAM / NABERS assessor
  • Circular Economy / Embedded Carbon assessor or experience
  • Experience of presenting work to clients, design team members and internally within the business
